A Letter from Nancy Coe
Dear Friends,
My husband has been teaching a series about heaven for our CC class at the same time that we have been re-doing some estate planning. I laughed when I realized the appropriate connection between the two topics—one focused on where we will go, by God’s grace, and the other focused on what to do about everything we will leave behind. In fact, the more I am learning about heaven, the more eager I am to live a life that is in order and ready to go.
In my work as a financial advisor, I spend time with people every day who are asking “Do I have enough?” or “Will I have enough when I retire?” The unknowns of healthcare expenses, inflation, market returns, and longevity can make the answer less than certain. But I do know for certain that if you have assets left over when you die, then you did have enough!
The directions for what to do with those assets is contained in your will. If you are among the high percentage of people who either still have no will or have not reviewed it in many, many years, then this Thanksgiving, give thanks to God for what you have and consider your plans for it. Unlike what we have experienced in the last 18 months, an investment in God’s work is one that guarantees huge returns.
You will enjoy reading Bettye and Monte Weaver’s wonderful story of their philosophy and plan for leaving a legacy which accompanies this letter.
Regarding current giving, you will be interested to know that the Foundation now allows you to establish a Donor Advised Fund for a minimum of $10,000. This is significant because the Church no longer accepts “pass through” gifts, which are donations designated to go to other organizations and ministries. A Donor Advised Fund for which you direct the giving, is a great substitute, and simplifies check-writing and record-keeping.
Last of all, please check out our website!
There are stories there of what the Lord is doing with the gifts from the Foundation in Memphis and around the world. In case you missed it or want to hear it again, you can listen to John Guest’s inspiring talk to us at the Foundation Dinner this last April. How great and marvelous a God we serve. He gives His all for us! May He open our eyes to see all His blessings,
Nancy Hughes Coe
