Scholarship Established In Memory of Meredith Fox
A memorial fund has been established through the Second Presbyterian Church Foundation by John and Antoinette Good to honor the memory of beloved 2PC member and ECS freshman student, Meredith Fox.
The Meredith Ashley Fox Memorial Scholarship Fund has been created to provide financial scholarships for needy and deserving children who are graduates of The Neighborhood School and are accepted for enrollment at the high school level at Evangelical Christian School (ECS). The fund constitutes a gift amount of $100,000 given over a ten year period. The fund is structured in such a way that scholarships will be given beginning the 2010-11 academic year and continue in perpetuity.
Antoinette Good, who has been actively involved with The Neighborhood School for years, and her husband John, understand the tremendous impact that one life can have upon another. The Goods feel privileged to give to the Foundation so that this memorial may be established as a lasting tribute to the impact of Meredith’s life, and to continue impacting the lives of young people in honor of her memory.
The Goods relate, “As a new ECS student, Meredith quickly made great new Christian friends and discovered a loving student body in an academic setting that nurtured her Christian faith. We were touched by how quickly Meredith loved others as a new student and the way ECS loved her back. We are excited about the opportunity to give to Neighborhood School students, who are very dear to our hearts, the chance to join a loving, nurturing student family and experience the great Christian education that ECS provides. We believe the 2PC Foundation is the ideal partner for this endeavor because of Second’s long-standing relationship with The Neighborhood School, the excellent administrative and fund management capabilities of the Foundation and the ability of the Foundation to collect and manage additional gifts from people who desire to honor Meredith’s life in this way.”
Meredith’s parents, Roy and Terri Fox, expressed their appreciation to the Goods and the Foundation for honoring Meredith. Terri Fox shares, “Our family is deeply touched by the way the Goods and the Foundation have chosen to honor Meredith through the creation of this permanent scholarship fund in her name. Although our family misses Meredith, we have already seen many ways that God has used her death to change the lives of others, including her family, for the better. We believe in the providence of God and we know that He has the perfect plan for His children. People ask me how I can go on living joyfully after what they see as a tragedy. I can only say that Meredith is with the heavenly Father which is the ultimate best I could ever want for my child. I have never had more opportunities to share my faith with others before now and I am truly thankful to God that He has given me ‘the peace that passeth all understanding.’ This scholarship will allow other children to experience the love of the Father and give them a solid education in a Christian setting. Meredith loved ECS even though she was only there for six weeks and we are so excited to see the way God will change lives by this scholarship. We cling to the verse in Philippians 1:21 as our verse for life: ‘For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.’”
ECS and The Neighborhood School are working together to provide a positive experience for future scholarship recipients. Rex Jones, ECS Director of Advancement, states, “We, as a school, are so excited to partner with The Neighborhood School, as well as the Goods, the Foxes and Second’s Foundation to make a difference in the lives of these future students. Memphis is a huge place, but this is a reminder that we work together on changing lives one at a time.”
It is through the establishment of memorials such as this and similar gifts that the Foundation is able to augment and strengthen opportunities for individuals ministered to through our ministry partners. One of the primary goals of the Foundation is to help catalyze the efforts of Second’s strategic ministry partners like The Neighborhood School.
Other persons and entities are welcome to make gifts to the Meredith Ashley Fox Memorial Scholarship Fund. If you would like to make a contribution, please contact Vicki Simmons at vsimmons@2pc.org or 454-0034 ext. 193 or send it to the Foundation noting the designation.
