Grants
We support the mission of Second Presbyterian Church by providing grants to Session-approved ministry partners that combine the ministry of the Word with the ministry of deeds.
Below is a list of grants which have contributed toward this strategy:
Memphis
Hispanic Outreach - Grant to develop a Gospel based initiative to first generation Hispanics in the Berclair community of Memphis with the ultimate goal of planting an evangelical Hispanic church.
Families Matter - Grant to hire director to restart program begun in 2004 to increase community awareness of the value and advantages of marriage by training and equipping the faith community to provide individuals and couples with the skills, knowledge and commitment to create and sustain healthy relationships, marriages, and families.
Neighborhood Christian Center - Grant to implement TRUTH Seekers, an after-school Bible study for ages 5-18 focusing on prevention of “at-risk” behaviors, in the Orange Mound and Raleigh neighborhoods in Memphis.
Advance Memphis - Grant to enable the workforce development program to add a leader for enhancing its on-site employment training of workers from the Cleaborn-Foote community who participate in its job training program.
Shalom Project - Grant for a plan coordinator to facilitate the Memphis Master Plan, which will provide the evangelical church in Memphis with a suggested overall missional strategy for the city based on a biblical model.
Memphis Center for Urban Theological Studies (MCUTS) - Grant, in conjunction with other foundations, to begin a program in Memphis to equip inner-city pastors and non-ordained persons to proclaim the Gospel. Grant to improve and enhance the undergraduate and master’s level programs by the addition of a full-time director.
NEXUS – Grant to equip the next, emerging generation of community leaders in Memphis through proven mentor coaching and teaching. A partnership of Second Presbyterian Church and MPACT Memphis, funds are used for teaching sessions by local and national leaders, recruiting events, alumni communication, technological advancements and operational costs.
Christian Psychological Center - Grants to provide funding to expand the Center’s group training institute for pastors, church and civic leaders, and ministry leaders to strengthen counseling skills, social support, and staff development.
Crichton College - Grant augmented a funding program that enabled the College to overcome a financial burden created by its move to a stand alone campus on Highland Avenue.
Seminary Student Scholarship - Grants continue the financial assistance program established many years ago by Second Presbyterian Church for any member that attends seminary and agrees to serve in some type of full time Christian ministry for at least 2 years after graduation.
Pastoral Internship Program - Grant allows Second Presbyterian Church to produce well-qualified and trained M Div graduating seniors as candidates for the pastoral ministry through church-based mentoring and instruction in practical theology and ministry.
Argentina
Redeemer Presbyterian Church/Global Cities Church Plant – Grant for Phase 1 of the multi-site evangelical church plant development in central Buenos Aires, Argentina, in order to build a great city for all people through a Gospel movement that brings about personal conversion, community formation, social justice, and cultural renewal.
Armenia
Hope to People – Grant for the training of local ministers for work in a remote area with Ezid children, establishing children clubs in Ezids settlements, and bringing the Gospel to the children and their parents.
Cambodia
World Relief – Grant to continue and expand the Hope Program (cell churches, house churches, HIV/AIDS education and care, youth clubs), the Child Survival Program, Christian Response to HIV/AIDS, and CREDIT, a microfinance institution.
India
Kachhwa Christian Clinic – Grants for medical equipment for the clinic and for launching of 25 new “under the tree” schools and maintenance of 75 existing schools, including teacher training, teachers’ allowances, administration, textbooks, and uniforms. Additional grant to Utter Pradesh Mission for saturation church planting of 1000 new churches and 5000 houses of prayer and leadership of over 600 men and women.
Iraq
Servant Group International – Grant for the development of curriculum with a Christian world view for the Classical School of the Medes in northern Iraq.
Italy
Redeemer Presbyterian Church/Global Cities Church Plant - Grant for Phase 1 of the multi-site evangelical church plant development in central Rome, in order to build a great city for all people through a Gospel movement that brings about personal conversion, community formation, social justice, and cultural renewal.
Former Soviet Union (Ukraine and Russia)
Hope To People – Hope To People – Grants for development of Christian ethics classes in schools in Kharkiv region of Ukraine; for general operations of the Rovno Bible School in Rovno, Ukraine; and for a trip to evangelize the Terney area in far north-eastern Russia. Also grants for church plants in Novorosiysk, Russia and among the Tatar people in Simferopol, Crimea, Ukraine.
Third Millennium Ministries – Grant for translation of multimedia seminary curriculum into Russian for use by schools, groups and individuals in order to equip church leaders.
Syria
Arab World Evangelical Ministers Alliance (AWEMA) – Grants to fund training of pastors, church leaders, and church planters in 22 Arab countries in the Mid-East.
These partners have been screened to determine that their beliefs and activities are consistent with those of Second and the EPC. The Foundation monitors all grants to determine that the recipient organization's use of the funds comply with the terms of the gift.
