Memphis Resilience Center Fund Established

New Fund Established to Provide Mental Health Resources for Our Neighbors in Need

The Second Presbyterian Church Foundation is pleased to announce the creation of the Memphis Resilience Center (MRC) Fund, which supports a new ministry of the Christian Psychological Center (CPC), as it seeks to empower Memphis to be a thriving community for all its residents.

The Christian Psychological Center is the mental health ministry of Second Presbyterian Church. Its mission is to provide hope and direction to those experiencing life difficulties in a manner that reflects God’s love and grace. The CPC seeks to achieve this mission by providing Christ-centered services in four primary areas: counseling and other clinical services, educational programs, training and consultation, and collaboration with other like-minded organizations.

The Memphis Resilience Center was established due to the awareness of the lack of mental and emotional health provisions specifically in under-resourced communities of Memphis. These great needs intersect with the CPC’s expertise and heart for the City. This effort is a long-term commitment and will be most successful when partnering with other strategic non-profits to accomplish shared goals. The impact of this effort has a great ability for multiplication as the model is to train and support leaders in school, church, and community settings to recognize and alleviate hurt due to childhood trauma.

The MRC seeks to heal wounds of children who have experienced trauma, promote resilience skills through workshops for non-profits, and create a pipeline of resources for non-profits. The goal is to provide affordable Christian counseling for those who may not otherwise be able to access it. For instance, individuals who are at 175% of the poverty level or below can receive counseling services from CPC therapists or clinical trainees for as little as $10.

The Fund is to be utilized in furthering the work and mission of the Memphis Resilience Center under the leadership of CPC. Areas the Fund will benefit the new Center include the provision of administrative and operational support and improvements; strategic planning activities; counseling services; training and skills building opportunities; awareness building events; communication campaigns; educational materials; and consulting services.

Isaiah 42:3 emphasizes God’s compassion and tender love towards those, especially His servants, who are hurting and weak: “A bruised reed He will not break, and a faintly burning wick He will not quench; He will faithfully bring forth justice”.  The MRC seeks to show God’s compassionate love to those most vulnerable in our City.

The initial contribution to the Memphis Resilience Center Fund by the Foundation is $50,000.

The Foundation welcomes the receipt of Funds from members of Second and the community at large for the purpose of providing support for this effort.
